Just in case you haven’t noticed, there is a pink retro offering this summer in the name of the “Barbie” film. Forecast to be this summers blockbuster, Barbie, (who was the 1980’s iconic girl doll) is coming to a screen near you. Pink, retro, lots of singing and dancing is what I have seen from the trailers so far. I’m going on Thursday, so I’ll let you know!

As a child of the 1970’s, I never had a Barbie doll. Sindy was my preference, although I was more interested in my bike and climbing trees than I was in my dolls. I was quite the tomboy – in fact I never owned heels or any garment of pink clothing until I was approaching 30. Now I find that my house is slowly going over to pink, albeit to my husband’s dismay. The crowning glory is my pink Smeg fridge/freezer!

I have to say that my sewing fabric stash contains a limited number of cartoon/film characters. My favourite being a lovely fabric featuring Scooby Doo which I made into a memoboard. Oh, how I always wanted to be Daphne! I also have a few Snoopy & Peanuts fabric, which is very cute.
Finally, my most recent stash includes a fun and quirky fabric I spotted at Hobbycraft a couple of weeks ago. It was actually a Fat Quarter bundle, but this fabric was so eye-catching that it went into my basket immediately. The bundle features characters from Alice in Wonderland. There are several designs such as the iconic Cheshire Cat, but I fell in love with the Alice fabric.
Now, I tend to make quite a few memoboards for Lizzyshomemade. They are so fun to make and you can really be quite creative with fabric, ribbons and buttons. I decided that I would make this beautiful Alice fabric into a memoboard just for me. Do you like the finished result? It takes pride of place in my garden office and is so useful for pinning notes and business cards. Plus it looks great!
Happy holidays and enjoy Barbie! x
