Clothkits Boxy Reversible Jacket

During the Easter holidays I finally had some spare time for some sewing for me! I was up to date with my Etsy orders so I thought that I would make something for me for a change!

Last year I purchased the Clothkits Boxy Reversible Jacket Sewing Pattern, after being inspired by the Sewing Bee contestants making a similar pattern in a patchwork jacket. On a recent visit to Shrewsbury in the Abakhan fabric store, I saw some lovely pale pink fabric patterned with sprigs of flowers. Plus on the upside, it was in the sale bargains section!

The pattern is for intermediate sewists out there. I have to say that although I can insert darts and zips, I don’t consider myself a great sewer of garments. I like the process of actually making the garment, but somethimes the fit isn’t great. However, with this sewing pattern, I picked my usual size 10 and I have to say that the fit is perfect. The hardest part of the pattern is the bias binding, especially around the curves and the sleeves. The pattern is so clear with diagrams and I think that it is one of the best sewing patterns that I have ever used.

The jacket is a boxy style fit and is also reversible, so you can have fun choosing the outside and inside fabrics and swapping over. For my lining I chose a pretty cotton mid blue fabric with small white flowers. Both fabrics are cotton, which makes it easier to sew them together and attach with the binding. You might struggle with thicker winter type fabrics. I opted for pale blue bias binding and added a decorative pink rose on the curved front where a lapel would normally be.

Overalll, I am really pleased with this jacket and definitely intend to wear it when the weather improves. Yes, the binding could have been neater around the collar, but only if you look close up! I’m really looking forward to wearing my make and I will definitely be using the Clothkits pattern again in different fabrics.

Next on the to make list is the Clothkits 1950’s style Vintage Tea Dress sewing pattern. Watch this space!

Thanks for reading and happy sewing! x
